Position Overview

We are seeking a Family Physician to join a collaborative and flexible primary care practice in Nelson, British Columbia. This opportunity offers a blended rural family medicine scope, including longitudinal primary care, shared inpatient responsibilities, and participation in a rotating Doctor‑of‑Day hospital schedule.

Practice Details





- Clinic hours typically 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
- Lunch break 12:00 – 1:00 pm
- Shared physician coverage model with alternating presence in clinic (approx. 2–3 clinic days per week, with flexibility to include a virtual care day)
- Opportunity for some virtual care from home
- City parkade parking available nearby (~$8/day)
- Participation in shared inpatient coverage at Kootenay Lake Hospital (approx. 1–5 inpatient days per 12‑week rotation, depending on interest and availability)
- Participation in shared Doctor‑of‑Day responsibilities; cross‑coverage provided among physicians to support scheduling flexibility and time away
- Collaborative shared‑practice panel model with supportive cross‑coverage for vacation and leave
- Optional opportunity to participate in functional medicine clinic time (up to twice weekly)
- Vacation scheduling arranged collaboratively within the physician group

- Experienced administrative team
- Participation in the Kootenay Boundary Primary Care Network, supporting interdisciplinary care delivery

Compensation & Benefits

- Physicians are supported through the Longitudinal Family Physician (LFP) Payment Model or Fee‑for‑Service (FFS),



depending on preference and practice structure
- Estimated annual income range: $250,000 – $400,000 depending on FTE and schedule preferences
- Income varies based on clinic days worked, participation in hospital rotations, and optional additional services
- Overhead structure: typical Nelson clinics range approx. 25–30% (to be confirmed)
- Vacation leave: open for discussion
- Potential additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:
- Retention Premium 11.34%
- Retention Flat Fee $17,574
- Relocation Funding Available $9,000 – $15,000
- Recruitment Incentive $15,000
- Other benefits: Rural CME (max $4,840 per year after 4 years in practice), Hospital coverage stipends, Relocation support (eligibility depends on individual scope and appointment structure)

Eligibility Requirements

- Hold (or be eligible for) certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) or equivalent
- Be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC)
- Comfortable participating in a shared inpatient coverage rotation at Kootenay Lake Hospital
- Support available to assist with CPSBC licensing processes and regional onboarding coordination where needed
