Description Of Work 
This is a home-based position.  
Individual will be assigned to Bladen, Brunswick, Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Carteret, Columbus, Cumberland, Chowan, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Harnett, Hertford, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lee, Lenoir, Martin, Moore, Nash, New Hanover, Northampton, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Tyrrell, Warren, Washington, Wayne and Wilson counties.  
Responsibilities 
- Coaching, 
                                    
directing and overseeing Nurse Consultant I investigator's work activities including consultation, technical assistance, tracking investigations, reviewing investigative reports for accuracy, completeness and legal defensibility, communication and quality assurance activities.  
- Facilitating field activities and coordinating caseloads to ensure a prompt and efficient response to facility providers, health care personnel, other agencies, the public and Division and Department needs including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, monitoring workloads, assuring thorough & objective investigations and conducting performance reviews of Nurse Consultant I investigators.  
- Conducting investigations of health care personnel including planning, conducting and determining conclusions and administrative actions for investigative cases following applicable policies, procedures, professional techniques, strategies and practices.  
- Working with the Attorney General's legal counsel to prepare legal cases for administrative actions and testify in administrative hearings to present the State's evidence.  
                                    
- Working closely with other Section supervisors and managers to develop and implement Section policies and procedures and ensure that they are carried out.  
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities/Management Preferences 
- Professional knowledge of nursing standards and practices including the use of medical terminology, disease process and body systems, and current clinical diagnostic procedures and treatments, and skills in applying this knowledge during investigations of unlicensed health care personnel.  
- Ability to conduct, gather, review, organize, problem solve, assess, and analyze investigative findings for compliance with applicable rules and statutes while considering the difference in situations and facilities' organization and culture.  
- Ability to effectively teach/train investigators through orientation and on-the-job training.  
                                    
- Ability to manage personnel and provide performance improvement feedback.  
- Knowledge of written and oral communication skills with the ability to document investigative findings clearly and concisely presenting findings using proper grammar and in a legally defensible report for public information.  
- Proven intermediate to advanced computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft 365 Pro Plus or Microsoft Office applications.  
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.  
- Experience investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, fraud and diversion of drugs against health care personnel.  
Salary Range 
$64,211 - $105,949

Minimum Education And Experience 
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of clinical experience in the area of specialization.
