Position Overview

At Colombo & Hurd, AI is more than a technology initiative, it’s an opportunity to transform how our firm works and serves its clients. Our teams support people navigating major life transitions, and the tools we build can have a meaningful impact on their experience. As an AI Engineer, you’ll help turn that opportunity into reality by building and improving AI-powered products and internal tools that make our teams more effective, informed, and efficient.

Working alongside the Director of AI, other engineers, and firm-wide stakeholders, you’ll help take ideas from prototype to production. We’re looking for someone who understands not only how technology works, but why it matters: a curious, critical thinker who considers the bigger picture, takes ownership of problems, and makes thoughtful decisions that balance quality, speed, security, and user needs.

Key Responsibilities

- Build and deploy LLM-powered applications and services in Python on Azure.
- Develop AI drafting pipelines, knowledge bases, RAG systems, and tool-calling agents.
- Integrate AI solutions with internal systems through APIs and webhooks.
- Evaluate AI output quality and help maintain reliable, secure production services.
- Collaborate with engineers, external partners, and firm-wide stakeholders to solve problems and improve AI tools.

Qualifications & Requirements





- 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience, with a focus on full-stack development.
- Experience shipping at least one LLM-powered feature or product to production and maintaining it after launch.
- Strong Python skills, including modern backend frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Django).
- Experience building and maintaining full-stack tools or applications that support critical business operations.
- Hands-on experience with an agent orchestration framework (e.g., LangGraph, LangChain).
- Experience building RAG systems: embeddings, vector or hybrid search, chunking, and retrieval tuning.
- Experience with LLM APIs (e.g., Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Anthropic), including prompt design, structured outputs, and tool calling.
- Experience building automated evaluations for AI output quality, including golden test sets and LLM-as-judge.
- Solid experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Azure SQL), API design, containers (e.g., Docker), and CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions).
- Experience deploying, monitoring, and debugging services on a major cloud platform, preferably Azure.
- Ability to own features end to end, navigate ambiguity, and make sound trade-offs between quality and speed.
- Strong curiosity, critical thinking, and a desire to understand how systems work.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical decisions to nontechnical stakeholders.
