About Us
We are a nationally recognized premium law firm based in Denver, Colorado, serving a sophisticated nationwide client base in a highly specialized practice area. We are scaling rapidly, and are seeking a growth-minded builder, operator, and driver of accountability who thrives in a fast-paced remote environment. The firm adopted the Entrepreneurial Operating System (“EOS”), with the Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) serving as Visionary, and we’re seeking a Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) to serve as the firm’s senior operating executive and Integrator of the firm’s business operating system. This fully remote position is open to qualified candidates worldwide. Role OverviewReporting to the CEO, the COO turns the firm’s strategic plan into disciplined execution, leads the leadership team, and holds each functional leader, including the partners as practice team leads, accountable for priorities, measurables, and follow-through. The COO owns operational infrastructure and process across the firm’s non-legal functions, builds the talent system that attracts and retains an A-team, and leads the firm’s move to an AI-agent-enabled operating model. The Director of Operations reports to the COO, and the COO partners closely with Finance and Marketing.
Key Responsibilities
Talent System
• Own the firm’s talent system (sourcing, recruiting, and retention) for a highly specialized workforce, including proactive candidate identification, specialty recruiter relationships, and lateral-network cultivation. Selection remains with the partners; the COO keeps the pipeline full and moving.
• Refine the firm’s Q4 capacity and burnout-prevention system for practitioners, including capacity planning, surge protocols, and early-warning indicators. The COO owns the design; partners retain matter-staffing authority.
• Partner with the CFO and equity partners on attorney compensation design, market benchmarking, and offer construction.
• Coach function leaders through quarterly performance conversations and direct, timely written feedback, act early on capability gaps (develop, redeploy, or replace), and model a culture of accountability, candor, urgency, and follow-through. AI, Knowledge Systems & Agent-Enabled Operations
• Develop and execute a firm-wide AI roadmap that replaces repetitive, personnel-driven workflows with AI agents and automation, measured by displaced labor cost, throughput per FTE, cycle time, and quality.
• Redesign certain administrative roles and headcount plans around what agents can perform, retaining people for judgment, relationships, escalation, and exceptions. Run every deployment through a disciplined pilot, measure, and scale-or-retire cycle with explicit ROI accountability.
• Lead the completion and adoption of the firm’s proprietary knowledge base as the single source of truth for standardized workflows, onboarding and subject-matter training, remote engagement, and firm culture, with clear governance (content ownership, attorney review of substantive content, version control, and access permissions).
• Establish security, confidentiality,
and quality-control guardrails for AI and knowledge systems that protect attorney-client privilege and work product and are consistent with applicable rules of professional conduct. Strategic Execution & EOS Integrator Function
• Translate the strategic plan, as set by the CEO and approved by the equity partners, into 90-day priorities with clear owners, and drive on-time completion across the firm’s portfolio of concurrent initiatives.
• Own the leadership team cadence (annual and quarterly planning and regular leadership team meetings), the accountability chart, the scorecard, and issue resolution. Matter staffing, legal work, and professional judgment remain with the partners.
• Exercise documented decision authority over operational matters within approved budgets and policies, maintain a standing alignment cadence with the CEO, and escalate only matters outside that authority or reserved to the equity partners, freeing the CEO and partners to focus on billable work, client relationships, and firm strategy. Operating Discipline & Multi-Function Oversight
• Supervise the Director of Operations and oversee all administrative functions outside finance and marketing, including HR/People, IT/Technology, and client intake through engagement closure. Partner with the CFO and the Director of Marketing & Engagement, each of whom reports to the CEO.
• Own the firm’s core processes and direct all departments in documenting and rolling out standard operating procedures for every material function.
• Optimize core law firm workflows, including intake (business development and client conversion remain with the partners and Marketing), matter setup, engagement letters, billing workflow, and trust-related process coordination (financial substance remains with the CFO).
• Oversee data security, information governance, and access controls for firm systems and client data across a distributed, international workforce.
• Build firm-wide KPIs, dashboards, and reporting that give leadership real-time visibility, and manage vendor relationships and software integrations. Premium Service & Client Experience
• Work with the CEO and Marketing to set and enforce operating standards so that every client interaction, from intake through engagement closure, reflects the firm’s premium positioning.
• Build the infrastructure to scale high-touch service without diluting quality, responsiveness, or attorney experience. Culture and client experience responsibilities may transition to another executive as the firm grows. Qualifications & CompetenciesAssessed through behavioral interviews, work samples, and reference verification. Verifiable metrics are expected. Candidates should clearly distinguish systems and tools they have used from those they have helped operationalize within an organization.
• Executive operating experience. Prior service as COO, Integrator, or equivalent senior operating executive at a scaling premium professional services firm (elite law firm, top-tier consulting or advisory, top wealth management,
or comparable). Understands leverage economics, utilization, and realization, and how to lead autonomous, high-performing professionals. Law firm experience preferred.
• Talent system architect. Proven record building onboarding, ramp, and recruiting systems that turn high-potential hires into productive A-players and fill specialized professional pipelines.
• AI-first operator. Meaningful personal involvement in evaluating, piloting, implementing, improving, or scaling AI-enabled workflows, automation, knowledge systems, or similar operational technology within an organization, with a clear personal contribution, sound implementation judgment, a demonstrated ability to drive adoption, and an understanding of appropriate controls. Experience with agent-enabled deployments preferred. Able to help the firm progress toward more agent-enabled operations over time.
• Operating-system fluency. Meaningful experience implementing or leading a structured business operating system (EOS, Scaling Up, Six Sigma, OKRs, 4DX, or a disciplined proprietary system), with demonstrated ownership of leadership cadence, organizational accountability, quarterly priorities, scorecards or dashboards, and issue resolution. Able to learn and operate within the framework selected by the firm. EOS experience preferred but not required.
• Execution and orchestration. Has driven five or more concurrent strategic initiatives from concept through adoption and measurable outcome, on schedule. Comfortable delivering hard messages and deciding with imperfect information.
• Communication. Native or near-native business English, and comfortable with direct, candor-based U.
S. business norms.
• Education and tools. MBA or equivalent advanced degree or senior-executive credentials, and advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
• Personal attributes. Proactive, analytical, and systems-oriented; calm and decisive under pressure; high emotional intelligence and unimpeachable ethics. Remote Work, Structure & Compensation
• Sustained overlap with U.
S. Mountain Time business hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM MT), and semi-annual travel to Denver and other firm locations (passport and visa eligibility required, as applicable).
• Dedicated, professional workspace suitable for confidential meetings, stable high-speed internet, and a multi-monitor setup. The firm provides a noise-canceling headset where required.
• Computer: Windows 11 with 16 GB RAM and 256 GB storage, or macOS with Apple M1 or later, 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB storage, or greater to run multiple Microsoft 365 and Teams applications reliably.
• Engagement structure (employee, independent contractor, or Employer of Record) determined by candidate location and applicable law.
• Competitive USD base compensation, performance-based incentives tied to firm priorities and operational outcomes, and comprehensive benefits (or an equivalent allowance) with professional development support.
