Senior SAP AI Agent Developer / SAP BTP AI Engineer

Role Overview

We’re seeking an experienced SAP AI developer to take an AI agent from business requirements through production deployment. The consultant will design the solution, build the agent and its integrations, implement security and governance controls, and support testing, rollout, and knowledge transfer.

The agent will use enterprise data and SAP business processes to complete defined tasks, with appropriate human approval and oversight.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead discovery sessions to identify use cases, users, workflows, data sources, success measures, and risks.
- Design the end-to-end AI agent architecture on SAP BTP, including model access, orchestration, knowledge retrieval, tools, integrations, security, and deployment.
- Build and configure the agent using the client’s SAP environment and approved development approach.
- Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), grounding, prompt design, context management, and response validation.
- Connect the agent to SAP and non-SAP systems using approved APIs, OData services, SAP Integration Suite, MCP tools, or other suitable integration patterns.
- Apply authentication, authorization, data protection, content filtering, auditability, and human-in-the-loop controls.
- Create test scenarios and evaluate answer quality, tool selection, grounding, safety, performance, and failure handling.
- Prepare the production deployment, monitoring, alerting, cost controls, documentation, and support runbooks.
- Partner with business, SAP, security, data, and infrastructure teams through rollout and adoption.
- Train client teams and transfer ownership of the solution.

Required Experience

- Demonstrated experience delivering an AI agent or generative AI application into production.




- Hands-on experience with SAP’s AI development and runtime capabilities, such as Joule Studio, SAP AI Core, SAP AI Launchpad, and the Generative AI Hub.
- Strong development skills in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript; experience with the SAP Cloud SDK for AI or comparable SDKs is preferred.
- Experience building LLM applications using orchestration, tool calling, RAG, embeddings, vector search, and prompt management.
- SAP BTP development and integration experience, including REST APIs and SAP application connectivity.
- Experience integrating with SAP S/4HANA or other SAP systems, using APIs, OData, events, or SAP Integration Suite.
- Understanding of enterprise security, identity, role-based access, data privacy, and AI governance.
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, application monitoring, and production support.
- Ability to explain technical design choices to business and technical stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

- SAP HANA Cloud Vector Engine or other enterprise vector databases.
- SAP Build Process Automation, SAP Build Apps, CAP, SAP Datasphere, or SAP Cloud Identity Services.
- MCP, A2A, or other agent interoperability patterns.
- Cloud deployment and DevOps practices, including Git-based development and infrastructure automation.
- Experience in manufacturing, consumer products, retail, healthcare, or other regulated or complex enterprise environments.
- SAP certifications in BTP, AI, application development, or integration.
