We are looking for a Sr. Specialties Underwriter (Marine & Property) to develop and underwrite our Specialties portfolio, with Marine Cargo as the core line (mainly perishable and refrigerated cargo on annual floating policies) and Property. This role combines technical underwriting with a strong commercial focus: negotiating terms with brokers and reinsurers, and identifying new business opportunities while ensuring the technical profitability of the portfolio.

Responsibilities

- Analyze Marine Cargo and Property submissions, assess risk, price, and define terms, extensions, limits, and deductibles.
- Design alternative programs for each account and deliver quotations.
- Design, underwrite, and quote other Specialties lines within authority, escalating risks outside appetite or limits.
- Build and manage relationships with brokers; lead commercial meetings and present BARBUSS’s technical proposal to the channel and clients.
- Negotiate terms and conditions and close new business and renewals.
- Identify new business, products, and partnerships for the Specialties lines and bring proposals to management.
- Negotiate with reinsurers for risks exceeding treaty capacity.
- Monitor portfolio profitability, loss ratio,



and accumulation by line, product, route, and location.
- Maintain and improve underwriting guidelines, rating tools, and wordings for the Specialties lines.
- Deliver technical training on Specialties products to the channel and internal teams.
- Present portfolio results and relevant observations to management.

Requirements

- Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Law, Actuarial Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in underwriting.
- Knowledge of Institute Cargo Clauses, Incoterms and international logistics, Property wordings, and reinsurance.
- Proven experience dealing with brokers and reinsurers in commercial negotiations.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint). Power BI is a plus.
- Strong skills in risk assessment and technical pricing, with technical precision.
- Initiative, results orientation, and strong negotiation, influence, and persuasion skills.
