Remote Staff Accountant / Tax Professional — U.S. Firm (EST Hours)
About the RoleAn established U.S. public accounting firm is looking to add a remote Staff Accountant / Tax Professional to its team.
This role supports a U.S.-based client and requires working hours aligned with U.S. Eastern Time.
Responsibilities
Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
Record and review adjusting journal entries
Support preparation of U.S. individual and business tax returns
Perform account reconciliations and analyze financial information
Support month-end and year-end close processes
Collaborate closely with the U.S.-based team for review and sign-off
Qualifications
3+ years of accounting experience, ideally supporting U.S.-based clients
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and general tax preparation concepts

First 90 days: You have learned our core systems and tools, including Sabre, Asana, and our booking platforms.
You are leading shifts independently with 95%+ SLA adherence.
You are coaching your Team Leads with specific, useful feedback and you have identified your first improvement opportunity.
Within 6-12 months: You are consistently delivering 95%+ SLA and 98%+ accuracy.
Your team sentiment scores are at 8/10 or above.
You have led at least one initiative that measurably improved client satisfaction or team efficiency.
Your Team Leads are stronger leaders because of your coaching.

Engagement Structure, Compensation, Shifts, and Benefits
Ascend is a remote-first, global team.
This role is structured as a direct independent contractor engagement, with compensation being stated in USD and be paid in your local currency
As this is an independent contractor engagement, the compensation will not follow a traditional local payroll structure or salary breakup.
This means statutory deductions or components or other local payroll-linked benefits are not applicable unless specifically required under the terms of engagement or communicated in writing by Ascend.
Contractors are responsible for managing any applicable taxes, filings, and compliance requirements in their own location.
This role is part of Ascend's 24/7 client service operations and involves rotating shifts to support clients across different time zones.
This may include overnight shifts, weekends, or public holidays depending on business and team scheduling needs.
Weekly offs and shift schedules are planned in advance wherever possible and managed fair across the team.
The consolidated monthly compensation is designed to account for the nature of the role, including rotating shifts and operational coverage requirements.
Separate allowances for night shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, or additional hours are not applicable unless specifically communicated otherwise for a particular role.
At this stage, Ascend does not provide medical insurance, mediclaim, or similar statutory benefits for this role.
