General Manager - Marketing and Ecommerce Growth
HoopStars | Parent-company Marketing Team Lead
Full-time.
Remote from LATAM.
Toronto working hours.
Potential future relocation to the US or Canada by mutual agreement.
Build the business.
Build the marketing team.
HoopStars is a Toronto-based youth basketball business with recurring customers and technology-enabled operations.
We are looking for a hands-on General Manager whose strongest skills are marketing, ecommerce and profitable growth, and who can take responsibility for the whole business.
You will divide your time approximately equally between running HoopStars and building and managing the parent company Community Sports Partners' marketing team across its brands.
This is one vacancy advertised across multiple locations.
Candidates elsewhere in LATAM are also welcome; apply once using your preferred location listing.
You should understand how to turn advertising into customers, improve conversion, increase repeat purchases and make the numbers work.
You will also own budgets, operating performance and the team delivering the customer experience.
What you will own
Run HoopStars: Own its business plan, budget, revenue, profitability and cash forecasts.
Lead sales and operations, ensuring programmes, coaches, venues and service quality keep pace with demand.
Drive digital growth: Improve paid search and social, creative, landing pages, enrollment funnels, pricing, offers, referrals and retention.
Build the parent marketing team: Define the structure, recruit specialists, appoint contractors or agencies where useful, and manage priorities and performance across brands.
Establish commercial discipline: Connect campaign performance to paying customers, repeat enrollment and contribution profit.
Allocate marketing investment using reliable reporting and testing.
Stay close to execution: Inspect advertising accounts,
diagnose funnel problems and help launch improvements yourself while building a team that can execute consistently.
Support and autonomy
The parent provides bookkeeping assistance, HR support, IT and website support, and a local manager covering customer service and day-to-day sales.
You will propose budgets and team plans, then make operating decisions within agreed authority.
After onboarding, the founder expects a monthly business review, supported by clear weekly reporting and escalation of exceptional issues.
Your first 90 days
Understand the customers, operations and economics.
Audit marketing across the brands.
Establish reporting, propose the marketing team structure and hiring priorities, launch the first growth tests, and take ownership of normal HoopStars business decisions.
Who we are looking for
You may have built an ecommerce business, led growth for a consumer brand, run a digital agency with meaningful operating responsibility, or managed a business where digital acquisition was central to itsnative, and you build.
This is a requirement, not a bonus.
You should already be using Claude or equivalent as a working tool rather than a novelty, and you should be able to build and ship a landing page with it.
You can communicate your ideas in English at a native or near native level.
You will be in front of clients constantly.
You need to explain your thinking clearly, sell an idea on its merits, push back when a client is about to force the account into mediocrity, and raise a problem before it becomes a fire.
This matters as much as anything else on this list.
You are skeptical of your own numbers.
You would rather run the holdout than protect the dashboard.
You can work US Eastern business hours for client calls.
Where you live is up to you.
Bonus: you have built or operated your own Shopify store, or you have run Meta at spend too
