Non-Exempt The Student Nutrition Worker is responsible for assisting in the preparation, serving, and distribution of nutritious meals to students and staff in accordance with District standards and food safety regulations. This position performs a variety of food service duties, including meal preparation, cashiering, customer service, food handling, and maintaining clean and sanitary kitchen and dining areas.

The Student Nutrition

Worker I contributes to a positive dining experience by providing efficient service while supporting the District's commitment to student health, nutrition, and wellness.

- Arrange food and beverage items by stocking steam tables, display cases, serving lines, and storage racks to maintain clean, organized, and sanitary food service areas.

- Assist Student Nutrition staff and other District personnel as needed to support daily food service operations and ensure efficient completion of assigned tasks.

- Clean and sanitize kitchen utensils, equipment, carts, dishes, pans, tables, counters, food preparation areas, serving areas, storage areas, and other assigned workspaces in accordance with health and safety standards.

- Load and transport food service carts to ensure food and beverage items are available for scheduled meal service.

- Monitor kitchen, serving, and cafeteria areas to promote a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.





- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Student Nutrition Manager or Student Nutrition Worker II, including providing coverage during employee absences or supporting special events.

- Perform cashiering duties, including operating the point-of-sale system, handling cash transactions, counting money, and providing accurate change.

- Prepare assigned food and beverage items, including salads, pizza, sandwiches, cold food items, and other menu selections, in accordance with established recipes, nutritional guidelines, and food safety standards.

- Serve food and beverages to students and staff in a courteous and efficient manner while ensuring compliance with portion control and nutritional requirements.

- Stock food, condiments, beverages, and supplies; monitor inventory levels; rotate stock; and check expiration dates to maintain adequate quantities and ensure food quality and safety.

- Verify free and reduced-price meal applications, when assigned by the Student Nutrition Manager, to determine eligibility in accordance with federal and District program guidelines.

Required (Education & Experience)

Skills
- Ability to perform multiple routine food service tasks while adapting to changing work priorities.

- Skill in safely operating commercial food service equipment used in quantity food preparation.

- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.

- Ability to follow established food safety and sanitation practices.





- Ability to adhere to workplace safety procedures and standards.

Knowledge
- Basic mathematical skills, including counting, measuring, and making accurate calculations.

- Knowledge of food handling, preparation, and sanitation practices.

Work Conditions

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 20% walking, and 75% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in some hazardous conditions.

May travel to other campuses within the school district.
