Slate is the #1-rated nationwide commercial cleaning company in the US, specializing in overnight and recurring janitorial services for premium client sites. We use standardized checklists, photo documentation, and app-based quality control to deliver consistent, high-quality results — every location, every shift, every time. We do not operate as a franchise. Every team member is a direct Slate employee, and our culture is built on accountability, excellence, and mutual respect.
About The Role The People Operations Generalist runs the HR operations engine for Slate. You'll own the employee lifecycle and the accuracy of employee data, executing to the standards the People Operations Manager sets.
What You'll Do
Run the employee lifecycle day to day: status and pay changes, leaves of absence, transfers, and offboarding coordination, documented to the People Operations Manager's standards
Own employee and new-hire follow-up end-to-end: proactively contact employees, resolve blockers, coordinate with Operations when needed, document outcomes, and close the loop.
Investigate employee cases thoroughly before escalation by reviewing available records, communications, timekeeping, and documentation; escalate to the People Operations Manager with clear findings, actions taken, and the specific support needed.
Take ownership of assigned cases through resolution rather than handing off actionable tasks; escalate only when manager input or policy/compliance review is required.
Work the HR ticket queue: respond to employee and manager tickets, resolve what you can, and escalate policy, employee relations, or compliance issues to the People Operations Manager
Own payroll preparation, audits, and disputes: collect and audit hours, process pay-rate and status changes,
investigate discrepancies, and reconcile payroll data before submission, escalating exceptions to the People Operations Manager
Resolve payroll inquiries (missing hours, rate questions, deductions, final pay) that the HR Coordinator logs and escalates, coordinating with Operations on timekeeping issues
Audit new-hire files for completeness before day one, in coordination with the Onboarding Coordinator
Maintain HRIS data integrity: employee records, changes, and terminations entered accurately and on time
Provide documentation support to the People Operations Manager on employee relations: gather facts, timekeeping records, and prior documentation, and maintain investigation files
Produce standard HR reports (headcount, turnover, overtime, payroll summaries) for the People Operations Manager
Support multi-state compliance tasks: required notices, wage statements, and state-specific paperwork
