- Industry / Project: Fintech / Conversational AI & Infrastructure
- Time Zone: Coordination with US / LATAM / General teams
- English Level: Advanced (C1)
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support and execute a critical observability migration. In this role, you will lead the transition of our application and infrastructure telemetry from New Relic to a modern, OpenTelemetry (OTel) Collector-based architecture. You will be responsible for re-instrumenting applications, updating infrastructure manifests, validating telemetry outputs,
and ensuring seamless monitoring coverage across our high-scale ecosystem without compromising operational visibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Migrate existing application instrumentation, tracing, and telemetry configurations from New Relic to OpenTelemetry.
- Update YAML configuration files, environment variables, and deployment manifests according to established architecture standards.
- Execute unit tests and validation suites to verify that telemetry is accurately generated, transformed, and exported to target backends.
- Perform telemetry gap analysis, comparing existing New Relic data against OTel outputs to identify missing traces, metrics, logs, or resource attributes.
- Assist in updating dashboards, monitoring documentation, and troubleshooting guides to reflect the OTel architecture.
- Investigate telemetry collection and export errors, identifying root causes and collaborating with core platform engineers on complex edge cases.
- Maintain clear tracking and reporting of implementation progress, edge cases, and potential migration risks.
Requirements
Must-Have:
- Proven experience in software engineering with proficiency in at least one modern language (Java, Python, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript).
- Hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry (OTel) concepts, including distributed tracing, metrics,
logs, and OTel Collector configurations.
- Deep experience with cloud observability paradigms and transitioning off legacy platforms like New Relic.
- Solid understanding of HTTP, APIs, environment-based configurations, and reading/modifying complex YAML/JSON manifests.
- Strong background in software testing, debugging, log analysis, and validating high-cardinality telemetry data.
- Familiarity with modern software delivery workflows (Git, PRs, CI/CD pipelines).
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience operating or configuring OTel Collectors in Kubernetes or containerized environments.
- Knowledge of FinOps and cost-optimization strategies related to telemetry ingestion rates.
Key Deliverables & Success Criteria
- Execution: Successfully updated application instrumentation, validated OTel Collector configs, and verified end-to-end telemetry delivery to designated backends.
- Documentation: Updated technical documentation, migration checklists, and runbooks.
- Quality & Continuity: Zero removal of critical monitoring coverage during the migration window, with all pull requests passing automated tests and code reviews.
What We Offer (Contractor)
- Contractor agreement with payment in USD.
- 100% remote work in an international setting.
- Access to Argentine public holidays.
- Direct involvement in modernizing core platform observability for a high-growth fintech ecosystem.
- Professional development, learning platforms, and referral programs.
