- Collaborate with sales, operations, and project managers to validate revenue data and align project milestones with revenue events.
- Maintain and reconcile the deferred revenue schedule, ensuring proper allocation and recognition over time.
- Invoicing & Accounts Receivable:
- Prepare and issue accurate and timely customer invoices based on project milestones or time & materials.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging, follow up on outstanding balances, and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Reconcile billed amounts with project contracts and customer accounts.
- Project Cost Tracking & Analysis:
- Record and allocate project-related expenses, including labor, materials, and overhead costs.
- Monitor budget vs. vigente performance and ensure costs remain within approved budgets.
- Prepare project-specific financial reports and analyze profitability and performance metrics.
- Provide insights to project managers and leadership to support financial decision-making.
- General Accounting & Compliance:
- Support robust month-end and year-end close processes by preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Maintain thorough documentation for audits and ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting standards.
- Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a professional services or project-based business environment.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, particularly revenue recognition principles under ASC 606,
including application of percentage-of-completion and deferred revenue methodologies.
- Proven experience managing the end-to-end revenue cycle, including invoicing, accounts receivable, collections, billing reconciliation, and cash flow support.
- Ability to read and interpret project documentation such as Statements of Work (SOWs), Change Orders, Purchase Orders (POs), and LOEs to validate billing structures, project milestones, and revenue recognition terms.
- Proficiency with ERP and accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Acumatica, QuickBooks or similar) for financial data management, reporting, reconciliations, and revenue tracking.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate complex financial and project data into accurate reporting, profitability analysis, and actionable business insights.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying issues, mitigating risks, and driving process improvements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across Finance, Sales, Operations, Project Management, and Executive Leadership teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in project accounting, project revenue management, or revenue accounting within consulting, technology services, staffing, engineering, or professional services organizations.
- Familiarity with CRM and billing platforms such as Salesforce, Zuora, Ruddr PSA, or similar systems.
- CPA designation or active progress toward CPA certification.
