About the Role

Our client is seeking a strategic Mine Planning Engineer to lead long-term planning initiatives for their operations in Sandton . This role is instrumental in developing multi-year mine plans that optimize resource utilization, production targets, and economic viability, while ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental standards. You will work with cross-functional teams, including geology, operations, and finance, to create robust and adaptable plans. The idóneo candidate possesses strong analytical skills, a comprehensive understanding of mining methods, and experience in strategic mine design and optimization.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and update long-term mine plans (5-20 year horizon) for open pit and/or underground operations.
- Optimize mine designs to maximize NPV and ensure efficient extraction of resources, considering geological constraints and market conditions.
- Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects or expansions.
- Coordinate with operational teams to ensure plans are practical and achievable, and provide technical support for implementation.




- Manage and utilize mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Xact) effectively.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.

Requirements

- B.Sc. in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in mine planning and design, with a significant focus on long-term strategic planning.
- Proficiency in mine planning software and strong geological interpretation skills.
- Solid understanding of various mining methods, equipment capabilities, and operational economics.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience in economic modeling and feasibility study preparation.
