About the Role
Our client, a pivotal organization in shaping the future of the South African energy grid , is seeking a highly analytical and experienced Senior Grid Planning Engineer to join their strategic team in Sandton . This role involves long-term planning and analysis to ensure the grid's capacity, reliability, and efficiency can meet future energy demands, integrating new generation sources and technologies. You will play a key role in developing strategic plans that support the energy transition and enhance grid resilience. This position offers a significant opportunity to influence the direction of the national power infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct long-term transmission and distribution grid expansion studies, forecasting future load growth and generation capacity needs.
- Perform power flow, stability, and contingency analyses to assess grid performance and identify potential bottlenecks or weaknesses.
- Develop strategic grid reinforcement and upgrade plans, considering the integration of renewable energy sources and emerging technologies.




- Collaborate with generation developers, distribution networks, and regulatory bodies to align planning initiatives with broader energy sector goals.
- Evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of proposed grid infrastructure investments and projects.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior management and stakeholders regarding grid planning strategies.

Requirements
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power Systems.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in power system planning and grid analysis.
- Expertise in using power system planning software (e.g., PSS/E, PowerFactory, UPLAN).
- Strong understanding of power system fundamentals, transmission and distribution network design, and protection principles.
