JOB
PURPOSE:

A health information manager is responsible for
leading the HIM department that ensures accurate and quality management of
patient’s medical record. This role works closely with physicians, nurses, allied
health professionals as well as non-clinical stakeholders to facilitate
collection, organization and storage of the medical records in a safe
environment. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that documentation is
accurate, complete, and documented in the medical record within a defined
timeframe.

KEY
ACCOUNTABILITIES:

§ Identifying training needs and develop
talent, in conjunction with the relevant stakeholders

§ Interview and onboard new hires in the
HIM department

§ Establish, plan and update required
Policies and Procedures relevant to health information management

§ Ensure compliance with
industry standards and best practices in relation to management of the
electronic medical record system (EMR)

§ Monitor information in the EMR
for accuracy, completion and facilitate initiatives to improve quality of data
input and output





§ Collaborate with Quality
team on developing and executing data audits in the EMR

§ Analyze clinical data for
research, quality improvement, and report findings accordingly

§ Ensure compliance with
relevant accreditation and licensing standards

§ Ensure that direct reports
are trained on relevant accreditation and licensing standards

§ Facilitate completion of
reports required for external entities

§ Performance manage all members of HIM
including but not limited to: medical records, clinical coding, documentation
improvement and analysis

§ Establish audit systems consistent with
policies to address identified problems and assure accurate and complete
documentation

§ Provide education sessions to clinical staff
on documentation requirements

§ Work closely with Finance department to
ensure a fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle system is developed and
operationalized
