Backend & Data Engineer – GIS / Photogrammetry

About the Project

Our client is a U.S.-based technology company working with large-scale geospatial data and imagery.

We are looking for an experienced Backend & Data Engineer to join their data team, with an expected start as soon as possible.

This role combines software engineering, backend development, and data processing with specialized hands-on experience in GIS, photogrammetry, and geospatial imagery processing.

The engineer will work daily with core processing systems and large-scale imagery captured from drones (UAVs), fixed-wing aircraft, and/or high-resolution satellite sources.

The adecuado candidate has strong Python skills and proven hands-on experience processing geospatial imagery using relevant tools and libraries such as GDAL, Agisoft Metashape, Pix4D, or similar technologies.

Strong AWS experience is a significant plus.

Responsibilities

- Develop, maintain, and support backend and data-processing systems using Python.
- Work with core processing systems and large-scale geospatial imagery.
- Process imagery captured from drones/UAVs, fixed-wing aircraft, and/or high-resolution satellites.
- Build and maintain reliable data-processing workflows and pipelines.
- Apply hands-on GIS and photogrammetry expertise to geospatial imagery-processing workflows.
- Work with geospatial processing tools and libraries such as GDAL, Agisoft Metashape, Pix4D, or similar technologies.
- Process, transform, and manage large volumes of geospatial data and imagery.




- Collaborate with engineering and data team members to develop and improve processing solutions.
- Troubleshoot backend, data-processing, and imagery-processing issues.
- Support the scalability, reliability, and performance of systems handling large-scale geospatial data.
- Contribute to the continued improvement of engineering and data-processing practices.

Requirements

- Strong professional experience in software engineering, backend engineering, and/or data engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Hands-on professional experience with GIS and geospatial data processing.
- Hands-on experience with photogrammetry and imagery processing.
- Proven experience processing imagery from at least one of the following sources:

- Drones / UAVs
- Fixed-wing aircraft
- High-resolution satellite imagery
- Practical experience with geospatial and photogrammetry tools or libraries such as GDAL, Agisoft Metashape, Pix4D, or similar technologies.
- Experience developing or maintaining data-processing systems, workflows, or pipelines.
- Ability to work with large-scale datasets and imagery-processing workflows.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering environment.

• Availability to join the project as soon as possible.

Nice to Have
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS.
- Experience building or supporting cloud-based data-processing systems.
- Experience working with large-scale geospatial imagery-processing environments.
- Experience optimizing data pipelines or processing systems for performance and scalability.
- Previous experience working with distributed engineering teams.
