Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Medical Interpreter at Talent Ferry1.

The Medical

Interpreter will facilitate clear, accurate, and confidential communication between patients, families, and healthcare professionals in two or more languages, ensuring that medical information is conveyed faithfully and completely. Day-to-day responsibilities include interpreting during virtual or phone consultations, explaining medical terminology in a culturally appropriate way, and supporting patients’ understanding of diagnoses, treatments, and consent forms. The interpreter will prepare for sessions by reviewing relevant materials, maintain detailed and secure records of interpreted encounters following organizational guidelines, and adhere to professional ethics,



including impartiality and confidentiality. The role also involves collaborating with clinical staff, participating in training to stay current on medical vocabulary and best practices, and using remote communication tools and software effectively.

Qualifications

- Strong bilingual or multilingual communication skills with fluency in English and at least one other language commonly used in healthcare settings.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and concepts, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and accurately to patients and healthcare professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, impartiality, and professional boundaries in sensitive medical contexts.
- Experience working in healthcare, social services, or community settings, preferably in an interpreting or patient-support role.
- Excellent active listening skills, attention to detail, and capacity to manage conversations in emotionally charged or high-stress situations.
- Comfort using remote communication tools, electronic medical platforms, and standard office software while working independently from a remote location.
- Relevant certification or training in medical or community interpreting is highly beneficial; familiarity with applicable codes of ethics and industry standards is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in languages, translation, healthcare, or a related field is preferred.
