Senior Video Journalist – US News & Viral Stories

Remote | Full-Time

We are looking for an experienced Senior Video Journalist to join our international editorial team, with a particular focus on US news, viral stories and user-generated video content.

This is a fast-paced, high-output role for a journalist who combines strong traditional editorial skills with an excellent understanding of social media, digital storytelling and video editing.

You need to be able to spot a great story quickly, find the person behind it, secure the content, develop the story, produce an engaging video edit and deliver a complete, publication-ready package, while managing multiple stories at the same time to meet daily publishing requirements.

The Role

You will be responsible for finding, developing and editing compelling video-led stories with strong editorial, social and commercial potential.

This could range from breaking news and extraordinary eyewitness footage to remarkable human-interest stories, dramatic rescues, unusual animals, incredible caught-on-camera moments and emerging viral stories.

The role includes:

- Researching and identifying strong US-focused news, viral and UGC video stories
- Monitoring social media, news sources and online communities for breaking and emerging stories
- Identifying and contacting the original creator or rightsholder
- Securing the necessary permissions and rights for us to represent content
- Interviewing contributors, eyewitnesses and people at the centre of stories
- Developing stories beyond the original social-media post
- Establishing the who, what, where, when, why and what happened next
- Securing raw footage, additional video, photographs and supporting material
- Writing accurate,

engaging and publication-ready copy
- Editing the video content into engaging, professionally presented stories ready for publication
- Selecting the strongest footage, creating an effective opening hook and maintaining good pace and storytelling throughout the edit
- Using additional footage, interviews, captions, voiceover and other elements where appropriate to strengthen the story
- Working quickly on breaking and time-sensitive stories
- Pitching original video and story ideas
- Making strong editorial decisions about which stories are worth pursuing
- Understanding the commercial potential of video content
- Managing several stories simultaneously at different stages of development
- Consistently delivering the volume of completed and edited stories required to meet daily publishing targets and deadlines

What We're Looking For

Fluent written and spoken English is essential.

You must be able to communicate confidently with contributors and conduct interviews in English, as well as write clean, accurate copy to a professional publishing standard.

You should have previous professional experience in journalism, news, digital media, video journalism or a closely related editorial role.

You will also need to be comfortable editing the content you source and develop. We are looking for journalists who understand how to turn raw footage into a compelling video story , choosing the right opening, removing unnecessary material, maintaining pace and ensuring the finished edit keeps the viewer engaged.

This is not a role for someone who wants to spend several days working on one story. Our publishing operation moves quickly, so you must be comfortable researching, securing, developing, writing and editing multiple stories every day without compromising quality or accuracy.

You will need:

- Excellent written and spoken English
- Strong news and editorial judgement
- Strong video-editing and visual storytelling skills
- The ability to create engaging edits from raw and user-generated footage
- An understanding of hooks, pacing, structure and viewer retention

- The ability to work quickly and accurately
- Excellent organisation and time-management skills
- The ability to manage multiple stories and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience researching stories through social media and online sources
- Confidence approaching and interviewing contributors
- A strong understanding of US and Western news, culture and social-media trends
- An understanding of what makes video perform across digital and social platforms
- Strong fact-checking and verification skills
- Persistence and confidence when developing stories
- The ability to work independently as part of a remote international team
- A genuine understanding of the difference between something that has simply gone viral and a story with real editorial and commercial value

Commercial Judgement

Views alone do not necessarily make a video valuable.

We want journalists who can look at a piece of content and assess whether there is a strong story behind it, whether it can be developed further and whether publishers, broadcasters and digital platforms are likely to want it.

You should naturally be asking:

What's the story? Who owns the footage? What else can we get? Can we develop it? How should we edit it? And will audiences and publishers care about it?

Working Environment

This is a full-time remote position within a busy international editorial operation.

You will work closely with our journalists, editors and wider content team. There are daily publishing requirements, so reliability, speed, communication and the ability to consistently deliver multiple completed stories are essential.

The environment is fast-moving and performance-focused, but it also gives journalists the opportunity to take ownership of stories from initial discovery through to the finished edit and see their work reach audiences around the world.

How to Apply

Please send:

- Your CV
- A short introduction explaining your journalism, digital-media and video-editing experience
- Examples of stories or content you have previously worked on
- Examples of video content you have personally edited
- Your current location and time zone
- Your notice period/earliest possible start date
- Your expected monthly salary

Shortlisted applicants will be asked to complete an editorial and video-editing test designed to assess news judgement, research ability, story development, written English, editing ability, storytelling and their understanding of commercially valuable video content.
