About Us (by Luis Schilling, our CEO)
We are Tropical IT, the first e-commerce platform where companies can buy IT hardware across Latin America and the US. It's quite interesting how we are changing the way of doing business in this space, we are shaping the future of the industry.
As founders, we have been in the industry for +15 years, performing heroic maneuvers to deliver thousands of projects, in more than 22 countries, 57 cities. And have earned the trust of some of the largest companies in the world. And being in Silicon Valley truly enables us to think bigger. It's not about the idea, not even the execution, it's about the mindset.
So be ready to challenge yourself, think bigger, regionally, grow aggressively, have fun, make mistakes, learn from them and keep pushing forward. All of these are only available to you if you choose to work hard, to commit and deliver.
Have you ever been one of the first 25 employees at a company? Get excited! Our team is on a mission to ensure that all companies can get access to their IT hardware in less than 10 days by 2030, anywhere in the region.

What you'll do
You'll work across the core product surfaces of our B2B e-commerce platform:
- Customer Portal — a web portal where B2B customers manage orders, invoices, support tickets, and account data pulled from multiple internal systems.
- Regional E-commerce — the core storefront across Latin America and the US, including the shopping experience for a large product catalog and SEO-friendly page design.
- Other platforms.
Day to day, you will:
- Own the end-to-end product design process — research,
information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, visual design, and usability testing — for features across the portal, procurement platform, and storefront.
- Design and maintain the company's design system (components, patterns, tokens) to keep the experience consistent and scalable across product surfaces.
- Write and refine UX copy and microcopy across key flows — onboarding, checkout, forms, notifications, error and empty states — ensuring clarity and a consistent voice.
- Design responsive, accessible interfaces (WCAG best practices), working closely with engineers building in Next.js with TypeScript to ensure design fidelity in production.
- Plan and run user research — interviews, usability testing, and analytics review — and translate findings into concrete design decisions.
- Build interactive prototypes to validate concepts with users and stakeholders before development starts.
- Collaborate directly with Product and leadership to translate business requirements into user flows, and to help shape scope and priorities.
- Apply AI-assisted design tools (e.g., Figma AI, Claude, ChatGPT) to accelerate research synthesis, ideation, prototyping, and content drafting.
- Partner with engineering through implementation, reviewing shipped UI for fidelity to design and iterating post-launch.
- Help evolve the product's visual identity and design language as the platform scales across new markets.
Objectives of the role
Own UX/UI, copy, and system design across the core product surfaces of Tropical IT's B2B e-commerce platform for IT hardware across Latin America and the US — working end-to-end, from user research to shipped UI, shaping the experience, voice, and visual design system of the product, in close collaboration with engineering, product, and leadership.
- Raise the bar on usability, consistency, and craft across the customer portal, procurement platform, and storefront.
- Build and scale a design system that keeps pace with a growing, multi-market product.
- Bring AI-assisted design practices into the team's day-to-day workflow.

- Professional experience as a Product Designer / UX-UI Designer,
with a portfolio showing end-to-end work shipped in production.
- Strong proficiency in Figma (or similar), including component libraries and design systems.
- Experience writing UX copy and microcopy, and comfort owning a product's voice and tone.
- Solid grounding in UX research methods and usability testing, and the ability to turn qualitative and quantitative feedback into design decisions.
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and responsive design principles.
- Ability to work closely with different teams — Product, Engineering, Support, Operations — understanding how each one works and translating their processes and needs into product decisions.
- Practical experience building and maintaining a design system in a product with multiple surfaces or teams.
- Practical, hands-on use of AI design and productivity tools as part of your day-to-day workflow.
- Strong ownership, autonomy, and communication skills — comfortable operating in a fast-moving, resource-constrained startup environment.
- Professional working proficiency in English (team and stakeholders are distributed across LatAm and the US).
Nice to have:
- Experience designing for B2B platforms, marketplaces, or e-commerce products.
- Familiarity with SEO-friendly UX patterns and best practices for e-commerce storefronts and large product catalogs.
