Commercial Controller – Manager | EY Managed Services

The Commercial Controller serves as the commercial and financial governance lead for strategic GMx engagements, partnering with Engagement Partners, Tax Account Leaders, Engagement Leads, delivery leadership and Commercial Operations teams to maximize profitability, manage commercial risk, strengthen commercial discipline and drive informed decision-making across the engagement lifecycle.

Role Overview

This role goes beyond traditional financial reporting and operational oversight. The Commercial Controller acts as a trusted commercial business partner and governance lead, providing insight, challenge and recommendations to support engagement profitability, commercial compliance, pricing discipline and renewal readiness.

The successful candidate will combine strong financial acumen with commercial judgment, stakeholder influence, problem solving, process governance and the ability to operate effectively within a complex matrix environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop a deep understanding of engagement economics, commercial drivers, contractual commitments and business objectives.
- Serve as the primary commercial advisor to Engagement Leadership and the single point of contact for commercial governance matters and providing financial recommendations.
- Lead engagement financial reviews, including actuals versus budget analysis, forecasts and Estimate-to-Complete reviews.
- Establish early-warning indicators and provide recommendations before risks impact revenue recognition or engagement profitability, while driving margin improvement opportunities.




- Lead commercial readiness activities for contract renewals, extensions, amendments and scope changes.
- Drive the operationalization and monitoring of key commercial clauses, providing early visibility of contractual non-compliance and required corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities for fee uplift, pricing optimization and improved contract profitability.
- Drive commercial governance and ensure adherence to EY standards, policies, pricing structures, billing protocols and contractual requirements while recommending innovative solutions that improve commercial performance, operational effectiveness and financial visibility.
- Build trusted relationships while influencing stakeholders through data-driven insights, challenge and clear commercial recommendations.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Capabilities

- Experience in commercial and contract finance as well as business advisory.
- Strong understanding of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis and contract economics.
- Experience supporting complex contracts or client portfolios.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders in a matrix organization.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-support skills.




- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities across complex environments while maintaining accuracy, discipline and follow-through.
- Project management, transformation or process improvement experience.
- Big4 or similar experience.

Preferred Experience

- Pricing strategy, deal economics or renewal support experience.
- Experience implementing dashboards, reporting frameworks or commercial governance routines.
- Experience leading teams, coaching junior professionals or building capability across operational teams.
