Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Remote Position with Daily Collaboration in Pacific Time (California Time Zone)

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead the development of embedded software and vehicle control systems for next-generation electric commercial vehicles.
Position Summary The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will play a critical role in the design, development, integration, verification, and release of embedded software, firmware, and control algorithms that power Voltu's electric vehicle platforms.
This position requires deep expertise in automotive or similar mission-critical embedded systems, including vehicle controls, powertrain control, battery systems, diagnostics, functional safety, and communication networks.
The adecuado candidate combines strong technical leadership with hands-on software development experience and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop embedded software and firmware for vehicle electronic control units (ECUs).
- Develop software for electric powertrain control, battery systems, charging systems, thermal management, and vehicle integration.
- Implement real-time control algorithms, diagnostics, fault management, and safety-critical software functions.
- Design and maintain software architectures for distributed embedded systems.
- Develop software using industry best practices for reliability, maintainability, scalability, and safety.
- Integrate hardware, sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces.
- Develop and validate CAN, LIN, Ethernet, and other vehicle communication protocols.
- Support HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop), SIL (Software-in-the-Loop), bench testing, and vehicle validation activities.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams.
- Participate in software requirements development, architecture reviews, code reviews, and release management.
- Support troubleshooting of vehicle-level software issues during development, production, and field operations.
- Contribute to cybersecurity, diagnostics, OTA update strategies, and future connected vehicle initiatives.
- Mentor junior engineers and help establish engineering standards, tools, and development processes.
Required QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
Experience
- 8+ years of professional embedded software development experience.
- 5+ years of automotive, electric vehicle, heavy-duty vehicle, aerospace, industrial automation, robotics, or other safety-critical embedded systems experience.
- Proven experience delivering production software for embedded hardware platforms.

- Debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and embedded development tools
