About The Opportunity
A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller to join its Finance team. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a stable, collaborative organization while helping improve financial processes, strengthen internal controls, and support long-term organizational success. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role oversees one accounting team member and serves as a key contributor to financial reporting, month-end close, audit preparation, budgeting support, and process improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Maintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly financial reports.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Reconcile bank accounts, investments, and balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.




- Prepare supporting schedules for audits and financial reporting.

Cash Management
- Monitor cash balances and banking activity.
- Process electronic payments and transfers.
- Assist with cash flow monitoring and treasury functions.
- Maintain accurate records of cash-related transactions.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Review and process vendor payments.
- Maintain accounts receivable records and monitor collections.
- Ensure proper coding and documentation of financial transactions.
- Prepare invoices and billing documentation as needed.

Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes.
- Improve workflows, reporting procedures, and internal controls.
- Support finance system enhancements and modernization initiatives.
