Compensation: Base salary is $45,000, will depend on prior experience in field of community organizing and qualifications. Includes comprehensive benefits package.
Organizational Overview
Somos Un Pueblo Unido (Somos) is a statewide membership-based immigrant’s rights and economic justice organization that organizes immigrant families and low-wage workers to build long-term power, protect rights, improve economic conditions and strengthen local communities. Somos’ membership teams employ multiple strategies including:
- direct action
- community education (know-your-rights)
- leadership development
- litigation
- local and state grassroots legislative advocacy
- community-based research, and voter and civic engagement
Position Summary
The Santa Fe Community Organizer will recruit members, train leaders, and work with members of Somos to support the organization’s projects, as well as local and statewide economic justice and immigrants’ rights campaigns.
Specific Responsibilities
- Support the development and strategic direction of Somos’ worker organizing.
- Recruit members (immigrant families and low-wage workers) to Somos membership.
- Identify and create training for leaders.
- Support Somos’ campaigns, including research, outreach, mobilization, strategy, training, direct actions, and events.
- Support alliance-building work with current and potential Somos allies.
- Organize and facilitate strategy sessions, membership meetings, house meetings, forums, and other outreach activities.
- Attend some coalition meetings in person and/or virtually.
- Attend training for organizers.
- Present know-your-rights workshops.
- Willing to travel in and out of state occasionally.
Qualifications
- Commitment to social, economic, and racial justice and bottom-up social change.
- Fluency and literacy in English & Spanish
