- Position Summary
The Project Lead Surveyor will be responsible for managing and executing all surveying activities for a major Flood Risk Control project in San Juan, Puerto Rico, delivered for the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
The project includes river channel excavation and widening as well as construction of riverbank retaining systems using deep drilled shafts.
This role ensures that all surveying work is performed accurately and in compliance with project specifications, contract requirements, and USACE standards.
The Project Lead Surveyor will oversee the survey team and provide critical support to construction operations by ensuring precise layout, verification, and control of all works.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all land surveying activities, including layout, control surveys, and as-built surveys.
- Establish and maintain project control points, benchmarks, and survey networks.
- Provide accurate layout for construction activities, including:Drilled shafts and deep foundationsRiver channel alignment and excavation limitsRetaining systems and structural elements
- Verify that construction work is performed in accordance with design coordinates, elevations, and tolerances.
- Prepare and maintain survey records, reports, and as-built documentation.
- Coordinate with Construction, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure alignment between survey data and design requirements.
- Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and survey data for field implementation.
- Supervise survey crews and ensure proper use of equipment and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with USACE standards and project specifications for surveying accuracy and documentation.
- Support inspections, audits,
and verification processes related to layout and as-built conditions.
- Promote safe practices and ensure survey operations comply with project safety standards.
- Requirements
- Degree or technical certification in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in surveying for heavy civil or infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience leading survey teams on complex construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of:Land surveying principles and practicesGPS, total stations, and surveying softwareCoordinate systems and geospatial data management
- Experience in heavy civil works such as:Deep foundations and drilled shaftsHydraulic or flood control projectsEarthworks and structural construction
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with USACE or similar federal project requirements (preferred).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
- High level of English (written and spoken) required
