Role Description The Cross-Cultural Symbol Consultant is a part-time, remote role focused on advising clients on the cultural meanings, interpretations, and potential sensitivities of symbols, imagery, colors, and visual concepts used in branding, marketing, products, and communications. On a day-to-day basis, the consultant will review visual materials and concepts, research cultural associations across regions and communities, and prepare clear written assessments and recommendations.

The role includes collaborating with internal recruiters and client teams to provide guidance that prevents cultural missteps and supports inclusive, respectful representations. The consultant will also contribute to best-practice guidelines, maintain a reference library of cultural symbolism, and may participate in virtual meetings or workshops to explain findings and recommendations.

Qualifications

- Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to gather, compare, and synthesize information from diverse cultural and academic sources.
- Knowledge of cross-cultural communication, semiotics, or anthropology, with an understanding of how symbols and imagery function in different societies.




- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to present complex cultural insights in clear, concise, and actionable language.
- Experience working with integral or multicultural teams, and a demonstrated ability to navigate sensitive topics with respect and neutrality.
- High level of cultural awareness, curiosity, and openness, with a commitment to equity, inclusion, and non-discriminatory practices.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple part-time projects remotely and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with standard digital collaboration tools (e.g., email, video conferencing, shared documents); familiarity with design or branding processes is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as cultural studies, anthropology, linguistics, communications, or a related discipline), or equivalent professional experience.
- Prior consulting, advisory, or analytical experience related to branding, marketing, or cultural insight is highly beneficial.
