Finance and Bookkeeping Controller

Position Overview
- Upstart AEC is hiring a Finance and Bookkeeping Controller to own day-to-day accounting, bookkeeping, payroll coordination, financial reporting, and operational finance processes for a fast-moving software and logistics technology environment.
- This is a hands-on finance operations role for someone who can manage the books, improve financial visibility, coordinate payroll and vendor workflows, and help leadership understand profitability, cash flow, and operational risk.
- The adecuado candidate is not only a bookkeeper. This person should be able to connect finance with operations, sales, delivery, talent, payroll providers, vendors, and contractors. They should be comfortable working closely with executive leadership, identifying financial risks early, improving processes, and keeping financial operations organized in a lean environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Own QuickBooks Online as the main accounting system
- Manage daily bookkeeping, transaction review, bank feeds,



categorization, and expense tracking
- Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, billing, vendor payments, contractor payments, and collections follow-up
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations and maintain clean financial records
- Support month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, P&L; review, balance sheet review, cash visibility, and leadership reporting
- Coordinate payroll workflows through ADP PEO or similar payroll providers
- Support payroll questions, employee records, payroll documentation, and escalation with payroll provider resources
- Help coordinate employee questions related to payroll, 401(k), health insurance, benefits, onboarding, and offboarding
- Support vendor and contractor onboarding and offboarding, including documentation, contracts, payment setup, W-9/1099-type workflows, and record maintenance
