Job Description Overview
AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups, with a history spanning more than 60 years. This role involves conducting probabilistic safety assessments (PSA) to support the design, operation, and refurbishment of CANDU nuclear power plants.
Location
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Responsibilities
- Perform probabilistic safety assessments for internal events, including shutdown states, internal fire/flood, seismic events, and other external hazards.
- Conduct reliability assessments of process, safety, and balance‑of‑plant systems, including emergency core cooling and containment.
- Interface with clients and projects to assess operational and safety issues, advise on solutions, and prepare or review internal and external work proposals.
- Develop risk monitors and risk‑generation assessments using Canadian, U.S., and IAEA PSA methodologies, codes, and standards.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate analysis phases of large‑scope projects, proposing and developing safety‑analysis approaches.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, supervise staff, review work quality, and provide technical guidance and leadership to junior engineers and technical employees.
- Promote teamwork, ensure project‑aligned execution through positive reinforcement, proactive collaboration, and adherence to project requirements.
- Prepare and/or review proposals of work for internal and external clients.
Qualifications
- Relevant honours degree in Engineering from a recognized university with 10+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out the responsibilities listed above.
- Excellent knowledge of CANDU design, including NSP (especially safety systems) and BOP.
- Broad knowledge of plant operation, plant response, and underlying reliability principles.
- Strong ability to work closely and effectively with clients in a client‑consultant relationship.
- Adaptability to work under pressure and respond quickly to changing project needs.
- Knowledge of severe accident analysis and severe accident management guidelines.
- Proven leadership and supervisory capabilities.
- Initiative in a team environment.
- Ability to manage work budgets and schedules.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for walkdowns, meetings, and workshops.
- Full commitment to operating within a formal quality assurance environment.
- Proficiency in CAFTA, CFAST, and Risk Spectrum computer codes – an asset.
- Experience in licensing activities – an asset.
- Understanding of light‑water reactor design and PSAs – an asset.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
