We're a technology company that leads with our humanity—driving our business priorities alongside meaningful social, community, and societal impact.Global Trade Classification AnalystPosition Summary:Ciena is seeking a Global Trade Classification Analyst to support the Global Trade Team's accurate, consistent, and defensible classification of Ciena products, software, technology, and components.
This role plays a critical function in supporting Ciena's global import and export operations by ensuring tariff classifications, export control classifications (ECCNs), and related regulatory determinations are performed in accordance with applicable U.S. and non-U.S. trade regulations.The position demands a strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex technical and regulatory information.
The Global Trade Classification Analyst supports both ongoing operations and new product introductions, helping ensure that Ciena's global trade activities remain compliant, efficient, and scalable.Key Responsibilities:Classification & Regulatory AnalysisPerform and maintain tariff classifications (HTS), export control classifications (ECCNs), and technology classifications for products, components, software, and related technologyAnalyze technical documentation, engineering specifications, and product functionality to support defensible classification determinationsAssess classification impacts related to encryption, controlled technology, dual-use items, and jurisdictional variationsDocument classification rationales and maintain audit-ready records to support internal governance, regulatory inquiries,



and external auditsExport & Import Compliance SupportSupport import & export compliance requirements by ensuring accurate tariff dataAssist with preparation of classification submissions, advisory opinions, or regulatory interactions as neededSystems, Data & GovernanceMaintain and enhance classification data in trade compliance systems (e.g., Oracle GTM or similar)Support data quality, consistency, and governance across products, releases, and jurisdictionsParticipate in internal audits, self-assessments, and corrective actions related to classification and trade complianceGenerate reports and analysis to support regulatory, operational, and management needsCross Functional CollaborationWork closely with Engineering, Product Line Management, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to obtain technical clarity needed for classificationProvide classification guidance and recommendations to internal stakeholders to support compliant business decisionsProvide training and guidance on classification principles and integral trade compliance requirementsMonitor regulatory changes and assess potential classification impacts to the product and technology portfolioContinuous Improvement & Risk ManagementIdentify classification risks or gaps and support mitigation strategiesParticipate in special projects, including new product introductions, system enhancements, or regulatory initiativesContribute to development and maintenance of internal trade compliance procedures, controls,



and best practicesQualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related fieldExperience: 2+ years of experience in global trade compliance or a related field, with emphasis on tariff and/or export control classificationSkills and Knowledge: Fluent in English (written and verbal)Working knowledge of export control regulations (e.g., EAR, encryption controls) and customs classification principlesExperience interpreting technical product and technology information for regulatory purposesStrong analytical and research skills, with the ability to apply regulatory frameworks to complex productsExperience working with trade compliance systems (e.g., Oracle GTM or similar)Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, cross-functional environmentProfessional certifications (e.g., CCS, CES, Licensed Customs Broker) preferred but not requiredPersonal Attributes:Strong attention to detail and accuracyAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to perform effectively under pressure and meet deadlinesProactive mindset with the ability to identify risks and solutionsCommitment to ethical and compliant business practicesSelf-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervisionFlexibility to travel as needed to support business activities #LI-SGAt Ciena, we are committed to building and fostering an environment in which our employees feel respected, valued, and heard.
