Large operator of neighborhood hospitals is looking for a skilled Business Intelligence Engineer to join its growing BI & Analytics function. This role targets to expand the team's development capacity, accelerate delivery of a consolidation roadmap, and reduce dependency on senior team members for day-to-day reporting tasks.
The successful candidates will own their work end-to-end - from requirements gathering through delivery - and will contribute to establishing consistent reporting standards, consolidated semantic models, and comprehensive technical documentation across Client's BI environment.
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands‑on Power BI development - semantic modeling, DAX, report design
- Solid Qlik Sense experience (cloud‑based; data modeling and visualization)
- Strong SQL / T‑SQL skills for data exploration and query development
- Experience working with complex, multi‑source data models
- Ability to understand and document unfamiliar data schemas independently
- Experience writing and maintaining technical documentation (data dictionaries, catalogs, commented code)
- Capable of gathering requirements and translating them into development specs and operational checklists
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Comfortable working asynchronously and autonomously across time zones
Nice‑to‑haves
- Experience in healthcare, compliance, or operations analytics environments
- Familiarity with SSIS and/or Databricks (data pipeline awareness, not authoring)Experience with Power BI lifecycle management (dev/test/prod workspace structure)
- Familiarity with Copilot or similar AI‑assisted development tools,
including the ability to review and validate generated schemas and DAX/SQL
- Prior exposure to SSRS report migration projects
- Experience in Zoho or similar project tracking platforms
- Exposure to Azure Virtual Desktop or similar remote development environments
- Working knowledge of HL7 and FHIR standards within healthcare data and interoperability
Primary Technology Stack
- Power BI (Desktop, Service, Semantic Models, DAX, lifecycle management), Qlik Sense (Cloud‑first; Qlik Cloud Service preferred over desktop)
- SQL Server / T‑SQL - data analysis and query development
- SSRS - familiarity for report migration and re‑platforming (authoring not required)
- Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) - remote development environment
- Zoho Projects / ticketing - work item tracking and project management
- Microsoft 365, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Flows
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Power BI semantic models, reports, and dashboards aligned with a 'prime model' architecture - reducing report sprawl and ensuring single source of truth
- Build and maintain Qlik Sense visualizations and dashboards via Qlik Cloud Service
- Migrate and re‑platform existing SSRS reports into Power BI or Qlik Sense environments
- Gather and document requirements directly from business stakeholders when appropriate
- Maintain and evolve existing semantic models (including complex finance/operations/clinical models)
- Ensure pixel‑perfect visual consistency and adherence to Client reporting templates
- Create and maintain data documentation: report catalog, data dictionary, measure/dimension definitions, and business glossary (acronym reference)
- Participate in weekly status check‑ins and bi‑weekly new‑work sync meetings with the BI Manager
- Proactively identify and surface best‑practice improvements and optimization opportunities
- Support the monthly KPI dashboard distribution process (Qlik Sense) and ad hoc development changes
- Sunset and archive legacy reports with appropriate documentation for potential future reactivation
- Manage work through Zoho
What Makes a Great Fit
- Ownership mindset - you take projects to the finish line without requiring constant follow‑up
- Vocal collaborator - you proactively share better approaches, not just execute what's asked
- Best‑practice advocate - you spot inconsistencies and flag them constructively
- Adaptable learner - you ramp up on new data schemas and domain language methodically
- Detail‑oriented - you care about visual consistency, naming conventions, and data integrity
- Comfortable with ambiguity - you can work from incomplete requirements and ask the right questions
- Ability to multi‑task smaller projects and break‑fixes while not losing track of large projects and deliverable timelines.
