Working At BitsonWe are a diverse team that takes pride in understanding the perspectives of others. We fully embrace working remotely and we are eager to act, improve and accelerate progress inside and outside of our organization.

n

To drive revolutionary changes in society and make crypto useful, we delight our customers with world‑class products, deep care, and intentional empathy.

n

Your PurposenAt Bitso, our mission is to make crypto useful. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will drive the design and delivery of features across the entire stack — from database schemas to backend services, BFFs, and frontend interfaces. You are not defined by a single technology; you are defined by your ability to think critically, make sound technical decisions, and leverage AI tools (LLMs like Claude, Copilot, Cursor) as force multipliers to ship high‑quality software at speed. You understand how modern products work, what users expect, and how to translate market standards into concrete implementations.

n

Your impact will be visible immediately, and your judgment will shape the systems that power Bitso's financial infrastructure.

n

Reports TonAs part of the Guardians service unit, you'll work on the systems that protect Bitso's users and platform — KYC, account security, user security, fraud prevention, and the internal tools that support account management. Guided by visionary leaders, your work will shape the next wave of financial innovation and influence the future of integral finance.

n

Who You ArenYou are a resourceful, adaptable engineer who operates across system boundaries rather than within a single layer.

You combine solid software engineering fundamentals with the ability to explore problems deeply using AI, challenge assumptions, and drive features end‑to‑end.

n

Core Requirements

- Clear and effective communication in English.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience across backend and frontend systems, including mobile.

n

- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (required).
- Available to work in a GMT‑6 to GMT‑3 timezone.

Engineering Fundamentals

n

- Strong understanding of software engineering principles: data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and designing for performance, scalability, and availability.
- Experience with cloud architectures (AWS), microservices, and distributed systems.
- Proficiency with relational databases (especially PostgreSQL) and familiarity with caching layers (Redis) and asynchronous processing (Kafka or similar).

n

- Ability to read, understand, and contribute to codebases in multiple languages — Java and TypeScript are our primary stacks, but we value adaptability over narrow specialization.

Product and Market Awareness

n

- Ability to understand what \"good\" looks like in modern products — you can look at a feature, identify industry‑standard patterns, and drive implementation decisions based on what users expect.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity:

you can take a loosely defined requirement, research how the market solves it, and propose a concrete technical approach across DB, BE, BFF, and FE layers.

n

AI-Augmented Engineering

- Comfortable and effective working with LLMs (Claude, GPT, Copilot, Cursor) as part of your daily workflow — not as a novelty, but as a core tool for exploration, code generation, debugging, and architectural reasoning.

n

- Ability to critically evaluate AI‑generated output: you know when to trust it, when to push back, and when to iterate on a prompt to get better results.
- Experience (or strong aptitude) using AI to accelerate work across unfamiliar domains — you don't need to be an expert in every layer to deliver across all of them.
- Ability to leverage AI and MCP‑connected tools (observability, incident management, databases) to troubleshoot and resolve production issues efficiently.

n

Nice to Have

- Familiarity with security, identity, fraud prevention, or fintech domains — but curiosity and the ability to ramp quickly in unfamiliar domains matters more.
- Deep experience in some of the technologies in our stack is valued, but we prioritize engineers who can learn and operate across them over specialists in any single one:

n

- Backend: Java (Spring Boot), microservices, event‑driven architectures (Kafka).
- BFF: Server‑driven UI, API aggregation, and orchestration.
- Frontend: TypeScript, Next.js, React, React Native.

n

- Infrastructure: AWS, containerization, CI/CD pipelines.
- Data: PostgreSQL, Redis.

What You Will Do

- Design and deliver features end‑to‑end across database,
